Feet

One can oft times despair at the general level of journalism in the UK but if looking for a level of journalism to really deeply despair at then you need look no further than The Daily Mail.

A while ago the great god Google took me to The Daily Mail where i came across this article: “So that’s why your feet are giving you grief!   Simple steps you can take to beat the toll of ageing”.

It states that the writer had the help of leading experts to write the article — experts in what may i ask?   Nowhere does Diana mention who these experts are or what their speciality is.   However, one thing is clearly obvious and that is that none of them know anything about feet and foot health because not one of them suggests going barefoot as a solution.

All the problems in the article are caused by wearing shoes — all of them.   So obviously the solution to all of them is to not wear shoes.

I started living my life barefoot in 2004.   The excruciating pain of osteoarthritis that i used to suffer (which i developed in my mid thirties) disappeared almost instantly.   I went from not being able to walk to town to being able to go hill walking like i used to when i was 20, simply by stopping wearing shoes.   Yes, i do go hill walking barefoot.

But alas, our society expects people to wear shoes.   Why?

We have a similar fixation within our society for making people wear shoes that other societies have for making women wear head-scarves.   Why?   It’s utterly ridiculous for people in the UK to eagerly criticise other societies and cultures for their dress codes while never considering their own blind obedience to the absurd dress codes that our own culture promotes, shoes, neck ties, etc..

Had i continued wearing shoes when the osteoarthritis set in and went down the standard medical route of painkillers and anti-inflammatories that are commonly prescribed for this condition, i would have had knee replacement surgery by now.   The cost to the economy caused by sickness and time off work, the cost to the NHS for knee and hip replacements and the cost of all the other medical help and prescriptions that go along with this debilitating medical condition is astronomical.   Yet the doctors — the drug pushers for Big Pharma — continue this treatment practice: why?   Because doctors get paid lots and lots of money to keep treating people like this and Big Pharma makes obscene amounts of profit every year from osteoarthritis medication and operations.   The damage done by wearing shoes is big business and in a capitalist society — where the sole goal of all corporate entities and their representatives is to maximise profits — the wearing of shoes must be actively encouraged and made a requirement.

I found this from 2012: “The Global Economic Cost of Osteoarthritis: How the UK Compares”.

To put it simply:

Shoes are a corporate tax on walking!

Now i’m not saying that everyone should just throw their shoes away.   There are times when footwear is necessary — like clearing brambles — but footwear isn’t necessary every moment of the day.   If you work in an office then there really is no need to wear shoes.   If you’re at home then there really is no need to wear shoes.   If you’re going to the newsagent to buy your copy of The Daily Mail

…i hope you get my point.

Give your feet a chance to be feet for as many minutes in the day as you can, else you’ll pay for it when you get older.

Plant-Strong Podcast

Rip Esselstyn has finally taken the plunge and began his very own podcast. Yes folks, the Plant-Strong Podcast is finally here.   Me is thinking that this just may turn out to be the very best vegan podcast ever and i’m very much looking forward to lots of future episodes.

As well as the links on the website you can also get this on Podbean.   Podbean’s my absolute most favourite podcast hosting site forever, because, in truth, it’s the only one i’ve ever used.

And Now For The Diet Part…

So following on from previous criticism of the BBC article…

‘Exercise “not key to obesity fight”‘.

Which you can find here!

We shall now look at the dietary component of this article.

Almost immediately we are fed these two paragraphs…

They said while activity was a key part of staving off diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and dementia, its impact on obesity was minimal.

Instead excess sugar and carbohydrates were key.

Isn’t it strange then how highly active people who eat a healthy high carb, high sugar diet are not overweight?

This continuous blame put on excess sugar and carbs in the diet is what is causing the obesity problem in the first place.

All too often we’re being told that excess sugar and carbs are the problem, yet very rarely are we told the real thing, that only added, refined, sugars and carbs are the problem.

This leads too many people to looking at labelling like the UK’s traffic light system, which lumps all sugars and carbs into one thing and brands fruit with a red light on the sugars, thus making people avoid the very thing that they should be eating.

Natural occurring sugars and carbs found in whole fruit and veg are not a cause of obesity, they are the cure. They are not a cause of type 2 diabetes, they are the cure. They are not a cause of heart disease, they are the cure. They are not a cause of high blood pressure, they are the cure. The cause for all these is only found in refined, processed added sugars and carbs – the kind that the food industry adds to processed foods…

The other thing not mentioned in the BBC article as a major cause of obesity is excess fat intake.

Fat is 9000 calories per kilogram, carbs and sugar are 4000 calories per kilogram, protein is 4000 calories per kilogram, alcohol is 7000 calories per kilogram and fibre is 0 calories per kilogram. In fact, fibre is negative in calories because it uses calories from your body as it gets passed through your system.

So knowing that, check out this picture…

bulk

Strange how the picture on the right is the one that is full of carbs and sugars and yet fills you completely to bursting and far less calories than protein rich and fat rich meals.

That’s the point here.

If you want to lose weight you need to eat good quality fruit and veg and you will lose weight. If you stuff yourself on high protein and fat laden meals you will gain weight because you’ll have to eat far more calories to feel satisfied and those calories are extremely difficult for your body to burn – unlike sugars and carbs which your body can untilise and burn easily.

But even that is not the whole picture. You can eat all the fruit you like and you won’t pile on weight, but eat that same amount of sugar that’s been refined and added to foods and drinks and you will pile it on. Especially when that sugar has been added to foods with fats in – which you find in lots of processed food. Just look at a packet of Doritos if you want an example…

doritos

And you can find many more examples like this if you just have a quick look around the supermarket shelves.

If i eat Doritos i will pile on fat – i know because i’ve eaten them occasionally. And it’s because of this low fibre, toxic mix of empty calories, refined fats and sugars and other chemical additives and adulterants that leaves your body in a nutritional wasteland wanting something more to eat because it hasn’t received any real nutrition even though you’ve just stuffed 1000 calories down your throat.

The biggest problem we have now, and the biggest cause of obesity, is processed foods. Mixing pure sugars in fat heavy, protein rich, nutrient poor foods with most, if not all of the fibre removed, is a sure way for the food industry (Big Food) to get you addicted to eating their junk. Firstly you’ll have to eat more calories to feel full. Then because they’ve removed most of the fibre from the food your system will be overwhelmed with the rush of calories from the accelerated absorption caused by lack of said fibre, because fibre slows this down to a manageable level for your system to deal with. And because your system can’t deal with and utilise calories being absorbed so quickly when the fibre is missing, the calories just pile on your body as fat.

The other issue is that because there are very little nutrients in processed food – and chemical added pseudo-nutrients like folic acid don’t work and in a lot of cases can be harmful – your body actually feels hungry quicker because it’s craving the nutrients that it didn’t get with the calories, thus making you go and stuff your face with ever more junk pseudo food causing a never ending loop of hunger and stuffing your face with rubbish that’s masquerading as food. And because this kind of diet is so low in essential nutrients you are not able to exercise to any reasonable level – thus the decent into obesity is fixed and held in place by the diet itself. This is why processed food is addictive, it’s an addictive cycle that can only be broken by eating proper, real, wholefood, natural, nutrient packed, high fibre, healthy food.

Ergo, the solution to obesity… stop eating processed foods. If it’s got a list of ingredients on it then it’s processed food, if it’s not looking like it does in Nature or has been tampered with in anyway, it’s processed food. If it’s smoked, salted, preserved, tinned, freeze dried, it’s processed food. Eat that jumk and you’ll get unhealthy and obese.

Alternatively, you can totally ignore my opinion, stay overweight, and listen instead to these so called experts that the BBC seems to find queuing up to give their expert opinion – but you do realise who is paying these experts to come out with this garbage, don’t you? Big Food and Big Pharma are spending billions on bribing corrupt and unscrupulous doctors and scientists to spread their gospel of lies in order to ever increase the profits for their shareholders, just like the tobacco corporations did before them. And they’ve made it clear that even where the science is completely against them, they will do everything in their power to muddy the waters and sow doubt in the consumer’s mind wherever they can, just as the tobacco corporations did before them – with articles like the BBC one above for example. And with billions to spend on marketing and pseudo science, biased trials and the like, they can sow a lot of doubt and muddy a lot of waters.

And while we’re on the topic of sugar, it’s also important to note that artificial sweeteners are not in any way helpful either, avoid them wherever possible. I’ll discuss those in a further post. Tune back in soon!

And remember… you are being farmed!

Vitamin Supplements Are Killing You

Yes, in case you didn’t know…

‘Too many vitamins can give you CANCER, major new study warns the millions who take them’.

Vitamins and minerals are of no real use outside of their natural packaging. Nature packs all but 2 essential human vitamins and minerals in whole plant foods with a vast array of other phytochemicals that need to go along with the vitamins for them to work properly and safely. Taking just the isolated vitamins and minerals (which are mostly synthetic ones) in a tablet and missing out the rest of the phytochemicals and convincing that you’re doing yourself some good is a recipe for health disaster.

And reading the above article makes me angry. All this talk about folic acid being a vitamin is nonsense. And suggesting that you can get folic acid from veg is also utter nonsense and a complete lie.

Folic acid does not occur anywhere in Nature. It is a man made, synthetic, garbage chemical that is not good for you. Vitamin B9 is Folate, not folic acid. Anyone who claims that folic acid is the same as Folate/B9 is trying to sell you snake oil and doesn’t give a shit about your health and longevity.

Folate is found mostly in leafy greens and legumes, have at it, eat as much of those as you like. It’s good for you and doesn’t poison you, and you’ll get lots of other health promoting things at the same time – like fibre. Folic acid, on the other hand, is made by Big Pharma and the chemical industry purely to make their share holders more profit, not to make you healthy. Folic acid is bad for you…

And that’s just a little story about B9. You can go through most vitamins and find similar stories.

As i said above, all but 2 essential human vitamins come from whole plant foods, and 1 of those is not actually a vitamin. Sorry to be picky folks, but vitamin D is a hormone and not a vitamin. Our bodies produce it in response to sunlight on our skin and we only get enough of it if we run around the tropics mostly naked most of the day. If, like me, you live in the UK, or some other northern or southern latitude then you need to supplement this hormone. This is either done by adding it to the foods you eat through fortification or by taking a supplement. The trouble with fortified foods is that you have no idea how much you’re are getting – too much or not enough? At least by supplementing directly you control exactly how much you take and when. I personally take 2500iu a day all year around as i’m not half naked in the sunshine even when it is sunny.

The only actual vitamin that doesn’t come in whole plant foods any more is B12. This is because we’ve sterilised nearly all the planet’s farm land with pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, etc., and also sterilise our water supply and the bacteria that makes the B12 isn’t in the food and water supply any more. It’s either added to animal feeds, fortified into junk food or you take a supplement. Again, by taking a supplement you always know you get enough. And B12 deficiency is a problem across all kinds of diet because most people don’t think they need to supplement it. It’s cheap, take a pure B12 supplement daily.

The Truth About Anti-Depressants

Here’s a great little video about anti-depressants…

The truth is that exercise, just 3 short sessions a week is as effective as anti-depressants…

And the side effects from that exercise are all beneficial, whereas the side effects from anti-depressants are horrendous.

One has to ask why the NHS is wasting billions of pounds serving out anti-depressants to people when N.I.C.E. has all this information? Isn’t it now obvious that N.I.C.E. are nothing but corporate whores serving Big Pharma?

This is what is wrong with the NHS. It’s not that the money isn’t there, it’s the fact that N.I.C.E. are spending that money straight into Big Pharma’s corporate profits on medications that serve no good whatsoever, produce a huge long list of side effects and produce ever more ill health requiring ever more expensive treatments on the NHS.

Yes folks… YOU ARE BEING FARMED!!!

It’s time that N.I.C.E. answered some serious questions. It’s time for a full and open public inquiry into the Big Pharma funding scam that the NHS has become. It’s time that all health care professionals were required by law to state to all patients any involvement with, shares in, funding from, any pharmaceutical corporation or their subsidiaries.

Fish Oil & Oily Fish

For anyone taking fish oil supplements, or eating oily fish because you’ve been made to believe it’s good for you, think again.

Meta-analysis of oily fish and fish oil supplements showed no benefits whatsoever. For those who aren’t aware of what a meta-analysis is, it’s when researchers take lots of studies and trials and take an overall view of all of them, rather than just reporting on a single study. A meta-analysis is therefore far more worthy of your attention than any individual study.

Basically, the fish oil/oily fish thing has all been a big con to get you to buy something that you never needed in the first place. The oceans and seas are being depleted rapidly of life and we do not need to be killing more of it to make supplements that serve no value to health whatsoever. So stop buying this stuff!
