Peppermint Cacao…

The healthiest xanthine laden beverage that i can create that’s actually palatable.

For those who don’t know what xanthines are, they’re a group of stimulants, highly addictive stimulants. The group contains caffeine, theophylline and theobromine, which you’ll find in drinks such as coffee, tea and cocoa all to varying amounts. It’s the differing amounts of each in these drinks and what other molecules they are bound with that makes these drinks have a different potency in the stimulation levels they inflict.

Most people are actually addicted to xanthines, yes, drug addicts, even though most won’t admit to it. If you can’t get through a normal day without any xanthines – you’re a drug addict.

Unless you have a very specific need to keep awake i really cannot see any need to take these drugs. But if you are going to do them then why not do them in the most healthiest way possible? And that’s what this recipe is here for. For all you xanthine addicts who just can’t get through a day without your drug fix.

To begin with, let’s think about all those recommendations to drink lots of water.

Yes, good advice we may think. But lets think a bit more.

What if, when we drink our water, we add to it loads of natural fibre, anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories? Surely that’s much better than just water on its own?

Take a 400ml mug.
1 tsp raw cacao
2 tsp raw cane sugar – the browner the better
1 tsp ground peppermint leaves (grow your own or buy loose leaves at healthfood stores or empty tea bags and grind to a fine powder in a coffee mill)
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/8 tsp ceylon cinnamon (do not use cassia/Chinese cinnamon as it contains coumarin which is toxic)

Pour on 400ml boiling good quality water (not recycled sewage river water like some cities put out of their taps)

Stir well and keep stirring occasionally as you drink it. Most of this will not dissolve so you need to keep stirring it up else it just all settles on the bottom and doesn’t release it’s full potency.

Probably more anti-oxidants in one mug than the standard western diet has in one week.

You still get plenty of water but you also get lots of healthy stuff at the same time.

You’ll get used to the powdery taste and texture in time, it’s worth it!

Do not add milk!!!!

I repeat, do not add milk!!!!

Milk will destroy all benefits!!!!

Best wishes.
