Don’t Exercise, It Won’t Do You Any Good… #youarebeingfarmed

So now we have this piece of utter nonsense…

‘Exercise “not key to obesity fight”‘.

Firstly, let get one thing straight. Activity and exercise are not the same thing. Going for a walk is not exercise, it’s just an activity. Bear that in mind if you want to lose weight.

When i walk, which i do briskly, i burn 180 calories an hour. That’s an activity. My heart rate barely ever goes above 100bpm.

When i cycle, at bottom to middle of zone 2, i burn over 360 calories an hour. This is light exercise.

When i cycle at the top of zone 2 / bottom of zone 3 i burn over 450 calories and hour. This is normal exercise.

The difference is what it makes your body do afterwards. The exercise will put into action changes in your body in the recovery period which will make your body far more efficient at burning calories and will also raise your resting metabolic rate, burning even more calories. Activity doesn’t do anything like that.

Exercising for 2 hours a day, i can easily burn 6300 calories a week. That equates to burning 36.4kg of fat a year. That’s 5.7 stone of fat. And that’s just in the exercise period, that doesn’t begin to factor in the extra calories that will be burned in the recovery period due to the exercise, or the increase in resting metabolic rate due to the exercise.

But if i was to go for a brisk walk for two hours every morning i would only be burning 14 kg of fat a year.

I hope you can see the difference?

But even still, if everyone who is overweight just did 2 hours of brisk walking a day that would make a huge difference over a year. Especially considering that i’m only 9.5 stone in weight and the heavier you are the more calories you will burn when you walk.

How do you know what a brisk walk is? Buy a heart rate monitor and use it every time you go for a walk. Buy a good one that you can program your weight into with GPS tracking for speed and distance as that gives you a more accurate read on calories burned. Garmin make great heart rate monitors. Yes, a good one may be expensive, but it will give you many years of happy healthy fulfilled life in return. It’ll be one of the best investments you’ve ever made.

A good, fully GPS, whistles and tinsel, sports watch that tracks everything you do will make you realise just how little you are actually doing. We can so easily convince ourselves that we’ve just walked 8 miles at a brisk pace but a good sports watch will soon tell you that you only walked 5 miles at slow pace. There’s no cheating with these things.

Anyway, for these so called experts to be saying that exercise (and even activity) is no good in the treatment of obesity, one has to ask just what their agenda is. Because i would welcome the chance to go on national television with them and debate this live for the whole country to see. The science is solid in what i have written above. 1kg of fat is 9000 calories. If you burn 6300 calories a week then you will burn 36.4kg or 5.7 stone of fat a year – at least. And as i said above, these figures are for me at 9.5 stone, the heavier you are the more calories you will burn.

Granted, most people could not go out today and start burning that amount of calories straight away. I certainly couldn’t when i bought Waldo last October. But 6 months of riding with Waldo and 6300 calories a week is easily doable. A bit more each time you exercise, a bit faster, a bit further, and within 6 months most of us can easily be burning a huge amount of fat off our waistlines.

Waldo is my ‘Giant Defy 1’ road bike, in case you were wondering.

But then i hear people say, i haven’t got two hours a day to spare. Well i beg to differ. Throw the television away for a start – there’s nothing on it that will make your life any good whatsoever, you’ll just sit there eating crap, drinking crap staring at it going brain dead, staying up late and not getting enough sleep. Not getting enough sleep is a cause of obesity and if you seriously want to lose weight then you need to get a good night’s sleep every night, and staring at a back lit screen before you go to bed does not allow you to get a good night’s sleep. Go to bed at 7pm having read a book for an hour first, and get up at 3.30 and go for a bike ride when there’s no traffic about and the air is cleaner. Stop driving or taking public transport to work and cycle there instead, and start taking detours as you get fitter and faster to make the journey longer and burn more calories doing it. Get a bike rack with big paniers and do your shopping using your bike instead of your car. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

But to say that exercise is no help in treating obesity is just total nonsense.

And the other benefit of exercise is that it improves both your physical and mental health at the same time as burning loads of calories. You will feel younger, happier, more enthusiastic for life. What’s not to like?

I will discuss the diet part of the above BBC article in my next post. Cause that’s a load of nonsense as well!

Best wishes.

Vitamin Supplements Are Killing You

Yes, in case you didn’t know…

‘Too many vitamins can give you CANCER, major new study warns the millions who take them’.

Vitamins and minerals are of no real use outside of their natural packaging. Nature packs all but 2 essential human vitamins and minerals in whole plant foods with a vast array of other phytochemicals that need to go along with the vitamins for them to work properly and safely. Taking just the isolated vitamins and minerals (which are mostly synthetic ones) in a tablet and missing out the rest of the phytochemicals and convincing that you’re doing yourself some good is a recipe for health disaster.

And reading the above article makes me angry. All this talk about folic acid being a vitamin is nonsense. And suggesting that you can get folic acid from veg is also utter nonsense and a complete lie.

Folic acid does not occur anywhere in Nature. It is a man made, synthetic, garbage chemical that is not good for you. Vitamin B9 is Folate, not folic acid. Anyone who claims that folic acid is the same as Folate/B9 is trying to sell you snake oil and doesn’t give a shit about your health and longevity.

Folate is found mostly in leafy greens and legumes, have at it, eat as much of those as you like. It’s good for you and doesn’t poison you, and you’ll get lots of other health promoting things at the same time – like fibre. Folic acid, on the other hand, is made by Big Pharma and the chemical industry purely to make their share holders more profit, not to make you healthy. Folic acid is bad for you…

And that’s just a little story about B9. You can go through most vitamins and find similar stories.

As i said above, all but 2 essential human vitamins come from whole plant foods, and 1 of those is not actually a vitamin. Sorry to be picky folks, but vitamin D is a hormone and not a vitamin. Our bodies produce it in response to sunlight on our skin and we only get enough of it if we run around the tropics mostly naked most of the day. If, like me, you live in the UK, or some other northern or southern latitude then you need to supplement this hormone. This is either done by adding it to the foods you eat through fortification or by taking a supplement. The trouble with fortified foods is that you have no idea how much you’re are getting – too much or not enough? At least by supplementing directly you control exactly how much you take and when. I personally take 2500iu a day all year around as i’m not half naked in the sunshine even when it is sunny.

The only actual vitamin that doesn’t come in whole plant foods any more is B12. This is because we’ve sterilised nearly all the planet’s farm land with pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, etc., and also sterilise our water supply and the bacteria that makes the B12 isn’t in the food and water supply any more. It’s either added to animal feeds, fortified into junk food or you take a supplement. Again, by taking a supplement you always know you get enough. And B12 deficiency is a problem across all kinds of diet because most people don’t think they need to supplement it. It’s cheap, take a pure B12 supplement daily.

Burn Off Those Calories With Sex…

Yeah, you’ve all heard the urban myths that having sex burns as many calories as a 3 mile run – or some other high energy physical endeavour. But is it true?

The average time people spend having sex is… 6 minutes!

And a young man will expend about 21 calories in that time.

1kg of fat is 9000 calories.

So don’t go thinking that you’re going to get that weight off fucking every day, you ain’t!

I got the above figures from this article… ‘What’s Driving America’s Obesity Problem?’

What’s shocking to me is the 6 minutes. Wow! Some people don’t like to waste a lot of time on sex do they? It’s called a ‘duvet day’ for a reason, darlings. If one wanted 6 minutes one would call it a ‘duvet 6 minutes’.

Best wishes.

The Truth About Anti-Depressants

Here’s a great little video about anti-depressants…

The truth is that exercise, just 3 short sessions a week is as effective as anti-depressants…

And the side effects from that exercise are all beneficial, whereas the side effects from anti-depressants are horrendous.

One has to ask why the NHS is wasting billions of pounds serving out anti-depressants to people when N.I.C.E. has all this information? Isn’t it now obvious that N.I.C.E. are nothing but corporate whores serving Big Pharma?

This is what is wrong with the NHS. It’s not that the money isn’t there, it’s the fact that N.I.C.E. are spending that money straight into Big Pharma’s corporate profits on medications that serve no good whatsoever, produce a huge long list of side effects and produce ever more ill health requiring ever more expensive treatments on the NHS.

It’s time that N.I.C.E. answered some serious questions. It’s time for a full and open public inquiry into the Big Pharma funding scam that the NHS has become. It’s time that all health care professionals were required by law to state to all patients any involvement with, shares in, funding from, any pharmaceutical corporation or their subsidiaries.

Coffee, Good Or Bad…

Apparently, the latest spin on coffee is that drinking 3-5 cups a day is good for your heart…

‘Regular coffee drinkers have “cleaner” arteries’.

No doubt there will be people today rushing to starbucks and costa to grab another coffee to ensure their heart health is improved because they only read the bits of the article that they want to hear. But is it so clear and cut as they make out?

Firstly, what coffee were they using and how strong was it? To what extent was it roasted, how much milk, cream, sugar, and other additives, if any, were added. How was it prepared; instant, filter, espresso, etc..

And also to bear in mind is that the South Korean diet is massively different to the UK, European and USA diet. So don’t be thinking chugging down 5 large lattes (whatever they are) is going to do you any favours as it may make things worse.

This is why studies on coffee show so many mixed findings. Too many factors are mixed in with coffee consumption that it’s easy to find some studies showing positive results and some that show negative ones. Note that the BBC haven’t put a link to the full publication of this study for anyone interested to look at this more closely – i wonder why that is?

Anyway, here’s some food for thought (or should that be drink?)…

So maybe instead of going for those extra coffees you might go for a green tea without milk. Although if you’re really concerned about health then try matcha tea instead…

Or cocoa…

Although do understand that it’s made with boiling water and no milk when you want it to be healthy.

If you want the cream of the crop of healthy beverage then i would suggest adding half a teaspoon of powdered peppermint leaves to your cocoa without milk – now that will do your health a whole lot of good…

Sure, there’s better herbals than peppermint, but peppermint is still amazingly healthy and it also goes so nicely with cocoa so that’s what makes it the winner in my book.

Just stay away from the coffee. If you’re addicted to caffeine, as most people are, then the theobromine in cocoa will fill all the caffeine receptors in your brain as they both belong to the same group of CNS stimulants, Xanthines. Addicts can replace one with the other, you just won’t get the wired agitated buzz from theobromine.

Reasons To Cycle Early – My First Polecat…

People usually look at me like i’m quite mad when they find out that i go out cycling between 4.30 and 5.00 am.

The main reason i do this is because there’s hardly any mettle monsters on the roads. Not only is this safer, but also a hell of a lot less stressful and also it means i don’t have to breath any of the pollutants that come out of their tailpipes.

No matter where you live the air will always be cleaner in the early hours of the morning, so it makes more sense to do your exercise then if you really care about being fit and healthy. Just stop watching that stupid television in the evenings and go to bed early instead. Today is far more fulfilling if you start with some good exercise and didn’t end yesterday watching a load of soul numbing shite on the moron box.

The other advantage to this, if you have a job, is that you do your post exercise, knackered bit on the company time. No point in ruining your own spare time being knackered after exercise if you can do it on company time!

And the other thing is that there’s also no one around to look at you funny when you ride along talking to yourself or singing songs, which can attract odd looks, to say the least, at more busy times of day when the madding crowd are out and about and being their judgemental selves. A good long cycle ride is a great time to have that conversation with yourself that you’ve been putting off for ages because you don’t want people to think you’re mental when you sit there talking to yourself.

But all that aside, i really do think the best reason for getting out and about so early in the morning is the wildlife. British song birds giving their dawn chorus has to be one of the most beautiful sounds in the world. We really do have the most amazing dawn choruses in this country, and sadly most people will never hear it.

And talking of wildlife, this very morning i was riding out of Otterton to ascend Peak Hill and there, running along the hedgerow in my general direction, was a polecat. All these years i’ve lived on this planet and i had never before seen a polecat in the wild. Such beautiful little animals, their markings all the more striking in the glare of my LED front lights. There is such an abundance of wildlife around early in the morning, just before dawn, and they don’t tend to run and hide from bicycles as they haven’t learned to fear cyclists because we’re such lovely people, so get a bike and get out there and enjoy our beautiful countryside and its wildlife in the peace and quiet.

Do be careful with deer though, you don’t want to go charging towards a rutting stag on a bicycle – somehow i think the cyclist will lose that battle. My advice for when encountering deer is to simply stop as soon as you see them and wait for the deer to move away in its own time. When possible, stand still and enjoy the time you spend with these beautiful animals whenever you’re given the opportunity – it’s something you never get the chance to do in cars as you just tend to kill them as you run them over at 80mph.

Best wishes.

Even Medical Experts Are Agreeing With Me…

After my ‘Should the NHS Fund Statins’ rant last month, it seems that i’m not alone in thinking these things…

‘Medical experts furious that doctors will be paid to dole out “risky” statins’.

The idea that a healthy liver should be medicated simply to make more profit for Big Pharma and for no other reason is disgusting, and any doctor who is prescribing medication simply because they are being incentivised with money should be struck off for mal practice.

As i said in my recent post ‘What Your Doctor Doesn’t Tell You… #youarebeingfarmed’

The medical community and Big Pharma make far too much money out of your sickness, so of course you can’t expect your doctor to tell you the truth, he’s incentivised to keep you sick.

…has, i think, been fully supported by this Sunday Express article.

I can at least take some solace in the fact that there are senior health care professionals out there who are in agreement with me and willing to speak out on this at last.

When the NHS is struggling so badly for money, we now have doctors being bribed to medicate their patients’ healthy livers in order to give them a whole raft of side effects that will require further medication and medical intervention while all the time politicians, with their own snouts in Big Pharma’s gravy trough, are trying to convince the electorate that the only solution is to throw even more money into Big Pharma’s coffers through the NHS.

Who benefits?   The only people who benefit from any of this are doctors, who own a lot of shares in Big Pharma corporations themselves, and other shareholders of Big Pharma corporations — like wealthy politicians — and also political parties who are funded by them.   Certainly, very few people being prescribed statins will benefit at all, and most people being prescribed statins will suffer worse for it.

Isn’t it about time that all Big Pharma share holders were made public?   I would love to know how many health care professionals in this country, and their close relatives, have shares in pharmaceutical corporations, and then i’d love to see the prescribing practices of those health care professionals in relation to which corporations they were having a preference for in their prescribing habits.   Now that would certainly be an interesting read!

At the end of the day, there are simply too many people with their snouts in the trough.   It’s up to you to change your lifestyle and diet to avoid any of this.   Stop being farmed!

What Your Doctor Doesn’t Tell You…

Following on from my recent post… ‘Should The NHS Fund Statins… #youarebeingfarmed’ during which i mentioned how truly ineffective statins actually were, here’s some further food for thought…

If all doctors were to inform their patients of the actual rates of side effects of most drugs and compare them to the actual results that these drugs give in treating their conditions and possible outcomes, not many people would take any medication at all.

And it’s not just the side effects of drugs prescribed by doctors that are literally killing thousands of people each week, just watch this following video and see what else your doctor isn’t telling you about your prognosis when left in the hands of the medical professionals…

And those figures don’t even begin to measure the debilitating side effects caused by prescription drugs and medical treatments that don’t actually kill patients.   If they’re killing that many, one has to ask, how many are they leaving seriously disabled with non fatal injuries?

As the second video says, the best solution is to avoid needing their intervention in the first place.   If you think that you can just shove your face full of crap food and have a great life because your doctor will fix everything then you need to seriously think again!

The medical community and Big Pharma make far too much money out of your sickness, so of course you can’t expect your doctor to tell you the truth, he’s incentivised to keep you sick.

You don’t have to be farmed like this, the choice is yours, eat healthy, exercise and get a good lifestyle!

Should The NHS Fund Statins… #youarebeingfarmed

The cost to the NHS last year for statin prescriptions was £769,000,000 – that’s over £3/4 billion.   This year, because NICE have recommended that statins be offered to people with only a 10% risk factor rather than a 20% risk factor, this bill is set to more than double.

But we have a health care crises in this country with NHS trusts failing woefully to balance their books and all government parties arguing over how the NHS is going to be funded in future.

But statins do not significantly increase anyone’s life expectancy, they only delay death by a matter of months, on average, if the statins are taken for 20-30 years, during which time Big Pharma will be profiting off lots of other medical treatments that they require — like treatment for the side effects of taking statins for that long, like type 2 diabetes and its complications, which statins have been shown to increase the risk of.

Can the NHS seriously afford to pay £1.5 billion a year, for 30 years, just to keep people alive for an extra few months during which they will be costing ever greater costs to the NHS and other care agencies?

Does anyone think that this is the correct path we should be taking?

Should statins only be available on private prescription?   They are now available over the counter at pharmacies so why should the NHS give out prescriptions for them any more?

The icing on the cake in all this debate should be this…

Is there a better way for people with high cholesterol to be treated than side effect causing statins that will bankrupt the NHS?   The answer is YES!

And it’s a treatment that anyone can use, it’s only side effects are even better all round health and lower food bills.

It’s a treatment called BEANS!

‘What does BEANS stand for?’ i hear you think.

BEANS!   Those seed things that come from bean plants…

Is eating beans everyday too much to expect of anyone who claims to care about living so much that they’re willing to bankrupt the NHS with needless prescriptions just to extend their lives by a few months?   If you care about this country and the health and wellbeing of everyone else in it then you don’t abuse the NHS with needless prescription requests for drugs that essentially do nothing other than fill Big Pharma’s shareholder’s ever growing bank accounts — like your GP’s for instance.

No wonder GP’s are so happy to prescribe these things.   I wonder what each shareholder in Big Pharma corporations makes in dividends each year from statin prescriptions alone?   Strange how NICE doesn’t publish those figures in their reports — maybe that’s because the doctors who make up NICE have also got their snouts in the troff.

In other words… #youarebeingfarmed

Truly, this whole statin thing is about farming people for profit and nothing else.   Unless someone has a very particular liver problem whereby their liver is producing too much cholesterol, which diet would not help, then statins should not be used, diet should.   Statins work by reducing the level of cholesterol that the liver produces, the only reason you would want to do that in a healthy liver is to allow people to eat food that is totally laced with cholesterol — meat, dairy and eggs (big profits for Big Food) — and to cause side effects (more profits for Big Pharma).   If people wish to have statins funded by the NHS to allow them to live longer just so they can carry on eating a high cholesterol diet then high cholesterol foods should be taxed to pay for that treatment — like smokers and drinkers are taxed for the health care costs of their pleasures.   If it wasn’t for the tax on cigarettes the NHS would have been bankrupt a long time ago, but thankfully smokers now pay more than double the cost to the NHS for smoking related diseases.

Is that fair on smokers?   Why should smokers pay for twice the cost to society for their pleasures while cholesterol abusers go totally livid when anyone suggests taxing their pleasures like George Osbourne did — remember the Greggs pasty tax fiasco?

Yet the Labour party recently suggested that tobacco should be taxed even more to pay for the excessive costs that are plaguing the NHS caused directly by cholesterol, salt and sugar abusers.

So yeah, eat beans and ditch the junk food and you won’t need statins, and the NHS can once again be able to lower their waiting lists and give people who genuinely need help the help that they’re not getting.

Every £1 you use of the NHS budget is one less pound for others to use — like your children and grandchildren.   Please, start spending it wisely?   The NHS belongs to everyone, especially future generations.   Us old gits have had our lives, stop taking from the young ones, just go eat some beans!

Juice v Smoothie

So what’s the difference in health benefits between a juicer and a blender? Let’s see…

As you can see, the stuff that the juicer removes isn’t just the fibre. There’s a ton of stuff attached to that fibre that is good and healthy – and the fibre itself is good and healthy too. It prevents the rapid absorption of the sugars within the juice and helps prevent type 2 diabetes.

Even if it was just the fibre alone that juicers were removing, at a time when most people’s diets are seriously lacking in fibre, does it make sense to remove all the fibre from your fruits and vegetables and drink just the juice?

Here’s an example about apples…

So not only throwing away the valuable fibre when juicing apples, but also cancer killing nutrients. At a time when cancer is killing more people than ever before why would anyone want to throw away the best part of an apple and drink the worse part of it…

Is this true of all fruit and veg? Well, no, there is one fruit, or maybe vegetable, that does the opposite…

So maybe ditch the juicer and buy a good blender?

And if it isn’t labelled as being able to crush ice then it isn’t a good blender!
